Sometimes, blogging feels ridiculously difficult. And that’s okay, it happens to all of us.

Here’s a template you can follow to write your blog posts. It’s designed to help writers of any skill level write prolifically to keep readers captivated. Follow the steps outlined by the pros in the industry:

Choose a relevant topic

Choosing a topic answers the basic purpose of content marketing:

To provide value to the internet and establish your brand as an authority in your field.

Discover what people are talking about with regards to your field by visiting forums. Reddit is a fantastic source! Another great way to learn what people love, hate, and desire from service providers like you, is in product reviews (think Amazon). Once you have identified sought-after information, you can start your blog post. Ensure you optimize your blog post to ensure it appears in Google’s search results - learning SEO is an essential step to attract new readers.

Introduce your topic

Start by identifying a core difficulty your reader is battling with.

If he is a gardener, perhaps he wants to know how to increase his flower yield. Let him know that you understand how frustrating his situation is.

Then, let your reader know you have the solution to his problem - it lies in the body of your blog post. Remind him of the benefits he will feel when he has the answers he is looking for.

Present your content in an engaging manner

Now is the time to deliver on the promise you just made. Make it easy for your reader to get the information he is looking for with these formatting tricks:

  • Keep your sentences short

  • Remove extra adverbs - adverbs are obstacles your reader must overcome to find the facts he needs - they provide no value

  • Add frequent paragraph breaks

  • Add facts and statistics to back up your claims

  • Use graphs, pie charts, and bullet points

  • A wonderful formatting tool to help you implement the above is Hemingway App. Simply copy and paste your text into the box and correct the highlighted areas.

A stellar conclusion

A conclusion should address any concerns your reader still has with the information you have presented to him.

Perhaps he worries about the price of the service you have discussed? Counter it by emphasizing the value of the service.

Finish with a call-to-action, a line that instructs your reader to “contact you” or “request a quote”. It is important to help your reader understand his next step to success after he has read your informative article. A call to action will increase your conversion rates if you follow tried and trusted call-to-action tactics.

Writing should be fun

In the content marketing business, we don’t sell products or services, we sell benefits. We’re not writing literary dissertations, we write informative blog posts using language that’s easy to grasp. For that reason, following this 4-step guide will keep your readers hooked.
